So with thanks to Tom from the Dead Man’s Hand Official facebook group, I am pleased to bring you the last of the Gangs from 1st edition Dead Mans Hand – The Other Seven.
So for those of you – possibly like me who werent aware – in 2016 a remake of the classic Magnificent Seven was made – called .. well called The Magnificent Seven – and thanks to Great Escape Games you can bring these 7 retrobates to the table in Dead Mans Hand. All images on this write up are from the Great Escape Games website.
They are introduced on the Great Escape Games Website as follows.
So there are 7 model in the Other Seven – who’d have guessed it.
Denzel Chisholm – armed with a pistol – the leader and smooth talker of the gang with pretty standard leader stats
Chris Faraday – Two Pistols – and a bog standard Dude stat line for 2 rep points
Ethan Robicheaux – Repeater and Pistol – +1 on shooting and H2h but a 6+ nerve – so possibly best to keep out of the line of fire.
Vicent Horne – Repeater, HtH Weapon – had 5 hits and a +1 to H2H but a -1 to Shooting and with the H2H weapon I am assuming an additional +1 to H2H in combat
Billy Lee – Pistol and Knives – comes with a +2 to H2H – although from the information I’ve seen there is no mention of the Knives having special stats – but the fact that they are mentioned makes me think that the Knives rules from the Plains Indians could be used
Garcia – Two Pistols – with the same stat line as Chris Faraday
Blood Moon – Bow – with the same stat line as Garcia and Chris
So unlike the Seven where there was a special rule for each character with these guys we only have 2 special rules. But each does have their own stat line and none has less than 4 hits
- ETHAN – when firing his repeater he gets an additional +1 to shooting for each of the OTHER Seven out of action
- BLOOD MOON – never takes negative shooting modifiers for his targets movement.
But what are their Ace, King, Queen, Jack cards?
- ACE – “I sense we are bonding” – now this is a first – a card with a choice- this must be played at the beginning of a turn – for the the remainder of the turn either all the Other Seven get a +1 to all nerve tests or all the opponents model get a -1 to all nerve tests. So the wording here means this includes big Nerve tests.
- KING – “This is not going to end well” – another card that must be played at the beginning of the turn. For that turn the whole of the OTHER SEVEN count as being in substantial cover.
- QUEEN – “I do have an affinity for shiny things” – this card can be played at any point, it allows the other seven to roll 2 dice in H2H combat and chose which dice they wish to use. Now the way this is written it appears to apply to only one H2H combat, but to be honest it is not clear and could apply to all H2H combat that turn – possibly one for the FAQ’s.
- JACK – “So you seek revenge” – this can be played at any time, when it is played nominate one of the OTHER SEVEN, that model may immediately move 10cm in any direction – this does count as moving for shooting and being shot at – so possibly best played on a character that has already activated and done their shooting
I am of 2 minds about this gang – Tom who kindly lent me the cards and rules to enable this write up says he loves them and that they are really fun to play, they are going to be a lot easier to use that the Original Seven as there are less special rules, and 2 guys with 5 Hits, 2 Guys with double pistols and those 2 special rules does mean that they will provide an interesting alternative.
